Our first country in Latin America was Guatemala. To get ready for the next countries we studied Spanish for four weeks at the beautiful lake Lago Atitlan. During that time we lived with a lovely Mayan family.

Then we visited the beautiful historic city of Antigua and the nearby Pacaya volcano. For a change we made a trip to Livingston at the Caribbean coast, with its cheerful and musical atmosphere and its unique Caribbean residents, the Garifuna.
Overall, Guatemala is a beautiful and very cheap country, but less relaxing for our freedom-loving backpackers mind in terms of weapons, attacks and security.
